Children are welcome as full participants in our worship and community life. We are delighted and blessed by their presence. Nursery care is provided throughout each Sunday morning for those who wish. Following the liturgy, all are invited to share in a time of fellowship in the parish hall.
If you are seeking a church community, we are available to provide tours and answer any questions you might have. We hope you’ll let us know how we can best assist you and your family. Sara Lewandowski coordinates our children’s ministries and Carl Raezer coordinates our youth offerings.
The Worship Center uses Godly Play materials and methods to add “wondering” to a child’s introduction to scripture stories. Wondering is the first step in theological thought and this program invites children as young as 3 and as old as 93 to think about the stories of our faith in a new way. Parents may go on to the Making Connections Forums, also at 9am, or are welcome to stay and experience the stories and reflections with their child. The Worship Center is located in the St. Priscilla Room, immediately at the foot of the staircase from the church foyer.
sundays: beginning at 10:00am for children and youth
Church School is offered for children aged 3 years through high school. Classrooms for children through grade 3 are on the main level, while grade 4 through high schoolers meet in the lower level classrooms. At the peace, all children and youth join their families in the sanctuary so that all may share in communion.
We use the Whirl curriculum, which gives children a fresh and fun connection to the liturgy we hear in church each week. We start our time together by identifying where we are in the church year, then we dive into the story for the week. There are creative leaflets for the children to bring home with great ideas to help the children connect what they learn to their daily lives.
sundays: 10am worship
In front of the pews you will find 2 soft space areas, one for toddlers and one for older children, each with quiet activities to keep hands busy while the children have clear eyelines to the actions of the liturgy. Chairs or the front pew provide places for parents of toddlers to sit with their children and kids returning from church school are able to use the soft space more independently.
Children are full participants in our worship and are welcome to receive the bread and wine or grape juice with their families.
sundays: nursery care
Care for the youngest among us is provided in our professionally staffed nursery. Located in the St. Priscilla Room at the foot of the stairs from the church foyer, there is plenty of space for stompers and trompers as well as creepers and crawlers to have separate areas and yet plenty of supervision. Many of our families drop in with wiggly kids at different times in the service and most come to get their little ones to take them to the rail for the Eucharist or a blessing. Our nursery opens at 9:30.
junior youth group forming
New this year is a Youth Group experience specifically for upper elementary students—those in grades 4-6. This group will meet monthly for an outing, activity or project. Parents will work together to select and schedule events with the assistance of Cleo Nykol and Jo Gantzer.
additional opportunities to learn, to play to grow together
We know it is not easy to enter a new community, no matter how committed they are to being welcoming. At St Simon’s, we seek to deepen the sense of belonging and connection for all ages. There are many other opportunities for families and children to come together to learn, to play, and to grow throughout the year. Please see our news and events page for information on our parish picnic, spooky spaghetti dinner and many other special offerings available.
