Ministry at Church Services

Lay Readers and Lectors

Lay Readers are trained and authorized by the Rector to read the lessons, serve at the altar as chalice bearers, and conduct prayer services according to the Book of Common Prayer. Contact Eric Kurbat for more information about Lay Readers' training. Lectors in our church generally sit in the congregation and walk to the pulpit to read the Old Testament lesson. Contact Fr. Dekker.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild serves God in the sanctuary and at the altar. Members make ready the things necessary for celebrating the Eucharist and other observances. They care for the vestments, linens, and vessels used at all worship services. Laura McGrath, the Director, prepares the Altar Guild schedule.

Acolytes

Young people entering 5th grade and older, as well as adults, serve at the altar during the Sunday Eucharist as Acolytes. Acolytes are lay persons who assist in worship by performing such functions as carrying the processional cross, lighting and extinguishing candles, carrying candles at the reading of the Gospel, and assisting the priests at the offertory and preparation of the altar. David Howley and Sara Lewandowski are the coordinators.

Ushers

Ushers arrive about 20 minutes before a service to greet arriving worshipers and hand out bulletins. They pass the collection plates at the offertory and count both the number of people present and the number receiving communion. Additional ushers are especially needed for the 10:00 AM service. Lauren Rogers is the coordinator.
