Women’s Book Club . . . The Morning group will resume their meetings at the home of Barbara Copeland beginning at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 2nd.  They will discuss The Help by Kathryn Stockett.  The Evening group plans to meet at the parish library to discuss Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte at 7:30 PM on Thursday, September 16th.

NEW Beginning for Our Mid-week Holy Eucharist . . . Most Episcopal Churches have traditionally offered a mid-week service.  At St. Simon’s, the service of Eucharist & Healing has been celebrated on Wednesdays at 9:00 AM.  In order to make the sacraments available to a greater number of people – both parishioners and others – we will now offer our mid-week service on Thursdays at 12:00 noon.  This new schedule begins on Thursday, September 9th.  Please join us!

Please Note . . . Our regular worship schedule resumes on Sunday, September 12th with services at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM.  Childcare is provided during both services.

Annual Parish Picnic:  “Hats Off to St. Simon’s!” Please SAVE THE DATE and wear your favorite hat for our annual parish picnic on Sunday, September 12 after the 10:00 AM service.  Fried chicken and hotdogs will be served along with a salad and dessert buffet.  There will be a bouncy moonwalk, popcorn machine, piņatas, face painting, balloon creations and other games for all ages to enjoy!  Please take a moment and sign up in the narthex for a dish to pass at the picnic.  There is a suggested donation of $10 per family to help defer costs.  Hope everyone will plan to attend this fun-filled event!

Men’s Book Group . . .  Ben Witt will lead the discussion of Matthew Pearl’s The Dante Club at the home of Lynn Jensen when group meetings resume at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 14th.  Multiple copies of the book are available for check out (for 6 weeks or longer) through the Arlington Heights Library.

Acolyte Training . . . Anyone in grade 5 or older with a desire to serve is invited to join our acolyte ministry.  The next acolyte training session will be Sunday, September 19th immediately following the 10:00 AM service.  Please contact Dave Howley or Sara Lewandowski with questions.

Dine with 9 Returns!  Mardi Gras, Passover Seder, Indian buffet and Wine & Cheese parties are all examples of “Dine with 9” happenings during last season.  Groups of 10-12 people, singles and couples, are formed and meet monthly for a simple meal at different homes over a six month period.  It is understood that everyone may not be able to attend every month, but ideally the schedule is set so that most people can attend most of the time.  So come join the fun!  Sign up for the 2010-11 season in the Narthex in the coming weeks, and then attend the Kick-Off Party at the home of John & Amy Stomper on October 3rd at 4:00 PM.  Any questions, please call Amy.

You Are Invited . . . to join St. Simon’s Prayer Ministry for intentional prayer during the next 2 weeks.  On Sundays, you will find an insert in the weekly bulletin with a certain prayer intention on it.  We ask you to take it home and put it in a prominent place as a reminder to add this intention to your personal prayers each day.  Thank you!

PROJECT BACKPACK . . .  Marcia Scantlebury, wife of the Associate Bishop of Chicago, The Rt. Rev. Victor Scantlebury, makes at least one trip each year to Caņafistulo, Panama to assist the school students of that region.  Without supplies and financing, these children struggle to stay in school beyond grade school.  During August, the Outreach Committee will be collecting school supplies to provide assistance in this region.  Those items most needed include:  backpacks (without characters, please), single subject spiral notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, scissors, glue/glue sticks, rulers and other basic school supplies.  Thank you for your support!
