Children are welcome as full participants in our worship and community life. We are delighted and blessed by their presence. Nursery care is provided throughout each Sunday morning for those who wish. It is located on the main level by the west side elevator entrance. Following the liturgy, all are invited to share in a time of fellowship in the parish hall.
If you are seeking a church community, we are available to provide tours and answer any questions you might have. We hope you’ll let us know how we can best assist you and your family. Sara Lewandowski coordinates our children’s ministries and Carl Raezer coordinates our youth offerings.
summer sundays: 10am
Children begin worship in church with their families and are called out to time-travel to the 1st century home village of Simon the disciple of Jesus. Each week the age appropriate version of the gospel lesson arrives as a “letter” from Simon and participants hear what “Simon Says” and have an activity before rejoining their families at the Peace.
In front of the pews you will find 2 soft space areas, one for toddlers and one for older children, each with quiet activities to keep hands busy while the children have clear eyelines to the actions of the liturgy.
sundays: begin at 9:45am for children and youth
Church School is offered for children aged 3 years through high school. Classrooms for children through grade 3 are on the main level, while grade 4 through high schoolers meet in the lower level classrooms. At the peace, all children and youth join their families in the sanctuary so that all may share in communion.
We use the Whirl curriculum, which gives children a fresh and fun connection to the liturgy we hear in church each week. We start our time together by identifying where we are in the church year, then we dive into the story for the week. There are creative leaflets for the children to bring home with great ideas to help the children connect what they learn to their daily lives.
additional opportunities to learn, to play, to grow together
We know it is not easy to enter a new community, no matter how committed they are to being welcoming. At St Simon’s, we seek to deepen the sense of belonging and connection for all ages. There are many other opportunities for families and children to come together to learn, to play, and to grow throughout the year. Please see our news and events page for information on our parish picnic, spooky spaghetti dinner and many other special offerings available.
